Research Interests in the Klotz Lab are the
Molecular evolution of bacterial genes, gene clusters and genomes that participate in the nitrogen cycle and confer oxidative stress tolerance. Focus is on autotrophic nitrification as a metabolic module that includes cooperating enzymes and pathways in at least two different symbiotic organisms. Pathways involved in nitrogen metabolism and oxidative stress tolerance are important to growth and survival of bacteria that live both in symbiotic and antagonistic interactions with each other and/or their hosts.
